Severe weather outbreak predicted in Oklahoma, Kansas

Severe storms and tornadoes possible in nation's midsection

Brad Small, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Des Moines, said the risk is similar in some ways to the threat yesterday in western Iowa.

Storms closer to the surface low ( NW OK-SW Kansas) will be in a favored position for deep sustained tilted updrafts resulting in very large hail and the possibility of strong long-tracked tornadoes.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch that's effective until 10 p.m. for the western half of North Texas, including Tarrant and Dallas counties.

Smith says another round of severe storms is forecast Thursday and Friday, with more tornadoes possible. While they do not look overly likely on Tuesday, a few tornadoes can't be ruled out especially early before storms form into a line.

"We expect numerous thunderstorms to develop through the afternoon hours and into the evening, with several strong to significantly severe thunderstorms developing across the area", Kurtz said.

Storms also continued into the evening in the Corn and Weatherford areas.

Garfield County Emergency Management Director Mike Honigsberg is warning county residents they are in a high risk area for severe weather later today.

As storms bring a lot rain, flooding becomes a concern over the next couple day. There could be some partial clearing with more sun early afternoon, leading to heat building and more instability developing.

Thunderstorms had caused some issues in Ellis and Woodward County during the afternoon on Thursday. The Tulsa metro now resides in the enhanced region and may experience severe weather later this evening into pre-dawn Friday. The highest threat for heavy rain will generally be south of US 36. South wind 11 to 16 miles per hour with gusts as high as 23 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Gov. Scott Walker plans to tour the storm devastation in northwestern Wisconsin where a tornado leveled a mobile home park, killing one person and injuring at least two dozen others.

Approximately 2 1/2 inches of rain fell in Fremont.

And the chance of showers will return for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The meteorological spring (March through May) total stayed at 9.22 inches, 1.88 inches above normal. Mostly cloudy with a high near 85. Partly sunny, with a high near 70.
