GOP legislative agenda incomplete, lags as Congress returns

Senator Warren waves at the Blue Green Alliance Foundation's 2015 Good Jobs Green Jobs Conference

Senate GOP members have said they are planning to write their own version of a bill, diverging from the House's American Health Care Act.

Republican Senator Cory Gardner of Colorado said Monday that he expects the Senate to tackle health care before the August recess, noting that Senate leaders plan to update their Republican colleagues on their discussions in a lunch meeting Tuesday.

The bishops said that if the Senate uses the American Health Care Act as its starting point, they should "retain the positive elements of the bill and remedy its grave deficiencies". "I don't really have anything new to tell you", said Sen.

And he pledged to complete the health care "by the end of July at the latest". Luke Messer and Todd Rokita of IN for voicing support for the emerging repeal plan, as they plot Senate bids against Democratic Sen. "It's been in the air for seven years and it's time to come in for a landing - hopefully a soft landing", the Texas senator said.

But although the cost may be relatively clear, the 23 Democrats voted for a $400 billion piece of legislation that fails to answer the obvious next question: How would the state possibly pay for it? But having a vote - even if it fails - could provide some closure on the issue and allow the GOP-controlled Congress to move onto other issues like government spending, the debt ceiling and more. "I just don't think we can put it together among ourselves". The House bill would eliminate enhanced federal funding for Medicaid expansion in 2020 and curtail support for the program overall.

"Under this bill, no matter what, you can not be denied coverage if you have a pre-existing condition", insisted House Speaker Paul Ryan, a talking point echoed by President Donald Trump.

Republican Sen. Richard Burr cast doubt on the likelihood that Congress would be able to reach an agreement on a healthcare bill this year during an interview on Thursday. The House and Senate plans both set aside well over $300 million for the state's reserves, which already sit and almost $1.5 billion.

After House passage of its measure, the US bishops "noted the positive aspects" of the bill, including "critical life protections" for the unborn, the letter said, but the measure "contains many serious flaws" the Senate must act to change, it added. On Monday, Mr. Trump endorsed the idea of privatizing the nation's Air Traffic Control system, a plan that was labeled "low hanging fruit" by a top adviser.

Most members wouldn't get into details about what actually is on the table, but they were honest that there are still sticking points here that have to be resolved. Federal law says Congress is supposed to approve an outline - the budget resolution - by April 15. "We don't have allocations yet", said Sen.

The two chambers already have agreed to spend $22.9 billion next year.

State economists anticipate a $580 million surplus during this fiscal year, leading to another $1.4 billion in collections for state government for the next two years, before the proposed tax reductions. Take Karen Handel, the Republican locked in a tight Georgia special-election contest to replace Tom Price, who left Congress to become Trump's secretary of health and human services.

It's rich of Issa to oppose Obamacare on that grounds that it is "anti-choice", when Issa has been a vociferous opponent of access to a full range of health care, and has strongly supported his party's agenda of depriving women of the right to make their own reproductive choices.

Overall six in 10 Americans (58%) say Medicaid is either "very" or "somewhat" important for them and their family, including a majority of Democrats (64%) and independents (57%), and almost half (46%) of Republicans.
