Florida Gov. to approve pay raise bill for state workers

House speaker's words strike controversy with public schools

Scott is planning to sign House Bill 7069 during a ceremony Thursday afternoon at Morning Star Catholic School in Orlando.

A section of the bill expands money for Gardiner Scholarships, which provide money to children with significant disabilities that can be used for private school tuition.

Scott in a statement said the legislation will help the state deal with the opioid crisis.

"Their job growth rate continues to lag far behind Florida and the nation, and CT has lost more adjusted gross income and people to Florida than any other state in the nation", Scott said.

Dr. Avossa argues that any improvements to schools are local taxes people vote on.

Rumors have spread that Scott will sign the bill, perhaps as soon as Thursday.

Avossa added, "We were promised by the heads of all of these departments and divisions in the state that this would be the most transparent year in Florida history and in fact, in my opinion, it will go down as one of the worst".

"They get that money to buy real estate and build buildings or retrofit buildings, but then the school fails and there's no provision that the money will revert back to the district", Farmer said.

Interim Superintendent Jacquelin Collins, for the Cape charter system, echoed that.

"I'm going to be careful in reviewing the bill and I'm going to act in the best interest of all of the students and the parents in our state", he said. The new laws would become effective immediately upon signature. While a few school districts have shared this revenue, South Florida districts have not.

At Angies Subs, Scott was joined by Republican Rep. Cord Byrd, who represents District 11.

Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Julie Jones said, "Governor Scott has recognized and fought for our Department's most valuable resource - the fearless men and women who have committed their careers to public service".

School districts are required to implement HB 7069 in their districts by July 1.

General Electric left Fairfield for Boston previous year and Aetna recently announced that it will be moving its headquaters out of CT as well.

For the FY 2017-18, property taxes are projected to generate approximately $114 million.

Meanwhile, a conservative school group called the Florida Coalition of School Board members is taking some credit for the passage, saying it helped structure and promote the bill.

She acknowledged that the school district will have to make changes on its part.

The comprehensive law includes several measures many educators say prioritizes charter schools over traditional public schools.

Duval County School Board member Becki Couch says the new law is devastating for Duval County.

On June 7, Adkins held a press conference, surrounded by other critics of the bill.

Governor Rick Scott is under fire from public school educators after he fails to veto a $419 million education bill. The governor's daily schedule listed the event as "HB 7069 Signing and Budget Highlight Event". "I am proud to stand with the Governor today as we continue to work to create a safer environment for Florida's communities".

"I want to thank each and every one of you who stood up for public education".

"Our advocacy will not stop here". "Why should we be giving them to some corporation that has no fiduciary accountability to the county?"
