Godolphin in Fine Form at Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot

The victor, ridden by James Doyle for trainer Richard Hannon, came in a length clear of Lancaster Bomber in second and stablemate Thunder Snow in third, with race favourite Churchill finishing a disappointing fourth.

Rouget made no secret of the fact that was merely a prep outing for this event, but it was still disappointing to see her beaten by two and a quarter lengths by Mix And Mingle, who got a peach of a ride from Moore.

As Lancaster Bomber, stablemate of the odds-on Churchill, pressed on early down the straight, the market principals were wound up for their efforts, with the eventual victor coming under a maximum drive over a quarter of a mile from home.

"I've got to have physio and get it properly looked after so won't be at Ascot this week", Dettori said in a statement.

"I've got to give it to Jamie", Ward said, "I don't want to tell you all the awful names I was calling him in the first part of the race".

"That was what Sheikh Mohammed wanted and he was dead right", said Barney Roy's trainer Richard Hannon.

"This year the weather is great, the horses look well and everything looks wonderful".

Sandringham Handicap A half-sister to Teofilo, Bean Feasa came good in a Group Three last month before being hampered out of the Irish Guineas, to the fury of her trainer.

"When we jumped out of the gate my tack slipped back a bit, which was a bit of a worry, but he stuck at it well off the turn".

"This is why I joined the team, to ride big winners like this, so to ride one when [Sheikh Mohammed] is here today makes me feel very proud".

"I've got to have physio and get it properly looked after so won't be at Ascot this week".

O'Brien said: "He's a brilliant horse and Ryan gave him a brilliant ride".

To the relief of favourite backers, Boudot is famed for a tactical awareness which brought him a European record 300 winners past year and retained his faith in Le Brivido, who clawed back ground with every stride and nailed Spirit Of Valor on the line.

The day begins with the Group Three Jersey Stakes and, in a hot renewal, the French colt LE BRIVIDO boasts arguably the strongest form. He just didn't pick up for some reason.

The still lightly-raced Banksea finished a good second on his only previous visit to Ascot and should find this stiff, strongly-run mile very much to his liking.
