Cosby accuser to resume testimony in sex assault trial

Andrea Constand walks to the courtroom during Bill Cosby's sexual assault trial at the Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday.

In yesterday's testimony, a woman identified as "victim number six" described being drugged and sexually molested by Cosby. The celebrity has been accused by more than 50 women of sexual abuse after drugging them.

The former basketball player then described the chilling details about her sexual assault in January 2004.

Nearly 13 years after Andrea Constand's assault, this is the first time she is publicly telling her side of the story.

Prosecutors this week plan to call a toxicologist to discuss the effects of drugs like quaaludes, a powerful sedative, and the cold and allergy medicine Benadryl, both of which Cosby has acknowledged giving women before sexual encounters.

Andrea Constand enters a Norristown, Pennsylvania, courtroom to testify that Bill Cosby sexually assaulted her in 2004. The gifts, she said, included hats, T-shirts and "some bath salts for him and his wife".

She said she also feared what Cosby might do.

On Wednesday, Cosby appeared to be listening closely to Constand's testimony, his head turned slightly to the side while Brian McMonagle, his other defense attorney, sat next to him.

Cosby was "somebody I trusted", Constand said. Using phone records on Tuesday, Agrusa noted that Constand had called at least six different lawyers, starting on the day she first reported the assault to police.

Constand also reportedly said Cosby had made advances at her in the past, having put a hand on her thigh and, on another occasion, tried to undress her before withdrawing when she said "I'm not here for that. I also told Mr. Cosby I (had) trouble seeing him", she said. "I don't know what's going on, but they're telling lies about me".

"I was mistaken", Constand said.

A different district attorney for Montgomery County, Risa Ferman, decided in 2015 to charge Cosby. The 79-year-old entertainer, once known as "America's dad" for his role in the 1980s hit television series The Cosby Show, has denied all wrongdoing. Prosecutors hope her testimony will show that Cosby had a pattern of assaulting women after befriending them.

Agrusa seized on the seeming contradiction: "You were going to confront the man you say assaulted you, and you're bringing him bath salts?"

Constand reiterated what she told the court Tuesday: Cosby had made romantic overtures towards her, but she brushed him off.

After ingesting the pills, she testified, the night took a dark turn.

He asked what he could do to help, and she said all she wanted was an apology. "If I went to the police, I thought Mr. Cosby would retaliate and try to hurt me", she replied.

Under cross-examination by Cosby's co-counsel Angela Agrusa, Constand was being painted as a gold digger after Cosby's fortunes, a profiteer framing Cosby as fiend not friend.

She spent more than three hours on the stand, recounting a relationship in which she looked to the Temple trustee as a mentor and friend, she testified.

Constand has said she felt her friendship with Cosby was important to the school's athletics department.

On Monday, former William Morris assistant Kelly Johnson testified that in 1996, Cosby made her swallow an unmarked white pill in his bungalow at the Bel Air Hotel.

Under oath, Constand said that Cosby assaulted her after he gave her three blue pills, which he told her were a natural remedy to ease the stress she was feeling because of an upcoming career change.

She met Cosby at Temple University in Philly where he was one of its most famous alumni and Constand was director of basketball operations.

"She continued to do her job", Constand's lawyer, Dolores Troiani, said outside court.
