How to make a pinhole viewer for the solar eclipse

You can just cross your fingers together so there are little spaces between them and cast shadows on the ground, or look trees where leaves will make that naturally happen. There is definitely going to be light still, but the intensity of the light outside will reduce by about two-thirds.

The eclipse is scheduled to begin in our area just after 1 p.m. and peak at 2:35 p.m.

Beginning at 8 p.m. Thursday, Chief Meteorologist David Hartman and Meteorologist Nathan Scott will be talking to viewers live on Facebook about what to expect with this event here in MS and for those traveling to the locations under the path of totality.

School officials are making these changes so students don't suffer any permanent eye damage trying to look at the eclipse without proper protective eye wear.

If you're stuck at work or indoors, Business Insider compiled a list of video streams where you can catch a glimpse of the eclipse in real time on the 21st, and save your eyes in the process.

Seek expert advice from an astronomer before using a solar filter with a camera, a telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device.

If the filters on your eclipse glasses are torn, scratched, punctured or coming loose from their cardboard or plastic frames, discard them.

Desert Park is also inviting anyone who has their own viewing glasses - or is prepared to make their own viewing box - to join the party.

In Earth's history, there have been some 3 billion solar eclipses in the U.S. alone, though some were partial rather than total.

Is it safe to stare at the sun? . And all you will see around it is the chromosphere and the photosphere. The telescope's computerized mount also features a Global Positioning System that will help Thomas track the eclipse.

Here in the Roanoke Valley, we're lucky enough to get 90-94% totality of that eclipse.

As long as you have a clear sight of the sky and the sun, you will definitely see it. During the event, viewers can ask questions to a panel of Slooh astronomers by tagging @Slooh on Twitter.

The Legacy Trail Pavilion at Oscar Scherer State Park will be open to solar eclipse spectators from 1:15-4:15 p.m.

Even here in NY, excitement is building over the viewing.

In addition to the great views Casper is hosting events every day leading up to a free Eclipse-Day Festival.

Always inspect your safety glasses or hand-held solar viewers before use, and discard if scratched, damaged or expired. The event runs from 11:30 a.m. -3 p.m.
