Walcott double guides visitors to nervy Europa League win

Alexis Sanchez Arsenal

The standard of competition was obviously lower than he'll encounter in the Premier League, but that doesn't devalue the weight of his pass or the precision of his touch.

Speaking of Wilshere, who is in the final year of his contract in north London, Wenger said: "He had an outstanding first half".

Still, Keown was full of praise for the teenager after he shone in tonight's 4-2 win in Belarus, comparing some of his flair and skill to Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil star Neymar.

A heavily rotated Arsenal side racked up a 4-2 win against BATE Borisov to keep Arsenal on course to qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League.

It was three soon after as Walcott whipped in a risky corner that was flicked on by Per Mertesacker and finished by Rob Holding for his first Arsenal goal.

Arsenal eclipsed the £400m turnover mark for the first time in their history last season, with revenue increasing £72.2m in 2016 to £422.6m this time around.

Walcott was given considerable assistance by the Borisov keeper, Denis Scherbitski, and by Jack Wilshere, who dominated the midfield.

However, 27 of his 100 goals have come from the bench, so don't bet against him significantly increasing his tally anyway.

But out of the blue Borisov pulled one back within two minutes, Alexei Rios sending in a good cross from the right that was headed home by Ivanic. A lack of UEFA Champions League football hurt Arsenal's chances during the summer, but if the team plays well in the next few months and has a positive outlook for next season, it will be a major help in January.

Giroud sent the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot in the second half.

They were unlucky not to score again in the 17th minute as Wilshere put the ball in the back of the net, but Walcott was contentiously ruled to have been offside in the build-up. Felipe Caicedo scored the decisive goal in the 18th minute, while Ciro Immobile added insurance at the death. But Rijeka scored twice in six minutes at the end.

The other match in the group also finished 3-1, with Rosenborg beating Vardar.

Milan looked in control at 2-0 with Andre Silva's fourth goal in two group matches. The sides went into the break with Arsenal in relative comfort at 3-1.

This led to a nervy last twenty minutes for Arsenal in a match they should have just let tick away.
