Takeaways from the Lions' 14-7 road win against the Vikings

Detroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones catches a pass ahead of Minnesota Vikings cornerback Xavier Rhodes during the first half of an NFL football game Sunday Oct. 1 2017 in Minneapolis

For years with quarterback Matthew Stafford, the Detroit Lions were known for trying to outscore opponents in back-and-forth shootouts. The 2-1 Lions headed into U.S. Bank Stadium to face off against their NFC North divisional rivals, the 2-1 Minnesota Vikings.

Last week it was three interceptions by the Lions' defense.

The Packers were in front right from the start in Thursday's game, and quickly jumped out to a 14-0 lead following Aaron Rodgers leading them to an opening drive touchdown. Against the Lions, he had rushed for 66 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown prior to the injury.

Cook's predecessor in the Vikings backfield, of course, was one of those ACL reconstruction success stories. The Lions swept the season series in 2016, but the two games were decided by a total of nine points.

Losing Cook (74-354 this season before leaving Sunday's game) would be a huge blow, as Mike Zimmer said afterwards he'll get an MRI for a possible ACL tear. But for the first time in years, left tackle is a strength, not a weakness. On the surface is was just another Week 4 loss, but with the injury to star running back Dalvin Cook and the way the offense cratered afterwards it felt like a loss that was the beginning of a bad trend. Abdullah and wide receivers T.J. But Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen, who's tied for fourth in the National Football League with four sacks, has declared Robinson to be the weak link. Detroit had 14 takeaways all previous year.

That means the Lions have gone 56 consecutive games without a player rushing for at least 100 yards.

"He's a man's man".

Cook cut against a defender and went down, fumbling in the process. They burned a timeout, and then we're flopping on the ball. "Shoot, they're scoring sometimes, which is a whole lot of fun", Stafford said.

The Vikings defense kept them in the game, but three fumbles in the second half made it almost impossible to come back. Setroit recovered the fumbles and scored five plays later. "They're reacting, and they're doing some great things", Diggs said. The Vikings went on to miss a field goal.

"He's been doing a heck of a job", Stafford said. The second-round pick out of Florida was a healthy scratch the first three games this season. "I think he's starting to develop more confidence".

"We're just tough", Zettel said of himself and his defensive teammates. "The circumstances kind of changed a little bit".
