Winter Storm Watch Begins Late Wednesday Night

Warm weather and heavy rain could cause flooding

The winter weather advisory is in effect through 3 p.m. Thursday in Wyandotte County. Separate warnings have already been issued for Western New York and Tug Hill, and the rest of Upstate is under winter weather advisories. Friday night into Saturday another clipper system is possible that could bring us more snowfall into the area.

Rain will begin falling Friday night, slowing transforming into freezing rain, sleet and then snow by Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

The mix will change to snow late Friday. If you are traveling north towards Nashville expect road conditions to deteriorate the closer you get to the Nashville area.

Further south towards the I-40 corridor, a wintry mix will be possible but impacts are expected to be minimal if any at all. That replaces the Winter Storm Warning that had been issued for the eastern half of the state. Total wet snow accumulations of up to 1 inch are expected, with localized amounts up to 3 inches. "Parts of west Tennessee and northeast MS could see 1-2" of snow. Travel could also become risky, including during Friday's evening commute. Some snow accumulation is likely through the weekend, and by Sunday, highs will fall below freezing once again.

After a short break last night, more snow is heading our way. The snow should dissipate by mid-afternoon Thursday, but there will be lingering lake effect snow downwind of Lake Superior into northern Wisconsin that evening. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a temperature rising to around 49 by 5 a.m. Northwest wind 5 to 15 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 25 miles per hour.

Saturday: Partly sunny with a high near 16 degrees and a low of about 7 degrees.

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 27. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Following the icy conditions overnight, snow will move in.
