Musk cherry's Falcon gives Roadster ride to Mars

The Falcon Heavy rocket is now the most powerful launch vehicle in the

Even Musk described it as looking "ridiculous and impossible". This achievement, along with @NASA's commercial and global partners, continues to show American ingenuity at its best! Musk replied with a kiss emoji.

That drew a gracious acknowledgment from Musk, who hasn't always seen eye to eye with the president.

His overriding goal is to establish a city on Mars, sending people there in a flotilla of SpaceX spaceships launched by colossal SpaceX rockets.

The day after Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk blasted his Tesla Roadster into space, his electric auto company's mounting losses brought him back to Earth again. "Crazy things come true". This will most likely lead to the Tesla being sent into an orbit further into the asteroid belt between Jupiter and Mars.

The Falcon Heavy rose from the same launch pad used by NASA almost 50 years ago to send men to the moon.

Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield tweeted: "What we're watching is @SpaceX leaving all other rocket companies in the dust".

"A private company just outperformed every government on earth", said Greg Autry, a professor at the University of Southern California and a former NASA White House liaison. "No one else is even close".

"Space races are exciting", the billionaire entrepreneur, inventor, and real-life Tony Stark said on Tuesday.

Elon Musk, founder and CEO of both SpaceX and Tesla, said the car's stereo was playing David Bowie's "Space Oddity", as images from the livestream showed a message reading "DON'T PANIC" on the dashboard. The booster was trying to land on the floating autonomous barge Of Course I Still Love You when it suffered a "rapid, unscheduled disassembly", to use SpaceX's term for crashed and burned. Musk confirmed at a press conference Tuesday night the rocket made a crash landing. The Falcon Heavy's increase capacity could allow several such satellites to be set into orbit in fewer trips.

The U.S. Air Force has already booked the massive rocket for a June launch of a test payload.

"If it doesn't explode into tiny pieces, it will carry Starman in Roadster over 400 million km from Earth at 11 km/sec on a billion year journey through deep space", he said.

Earth loomed large in the background as the Roadster gently glided through space and its passenger, fitted with SpaceX's new space suit, casually rested its left arm on the driver's side door and right arm on the steering wheel. Why did they have a little vehicle?

The Roadster was also outfitted with a data storage unit containing Isaac Asimov's science fiction book series, the Foundation Trilogy, and a plaque bearing the names of 6,000 SpaceX employees.

The Pentagon would expect the Falcon Heavy to compete for launches of large, expensive spy satellites that now can only be flown by the United Launch Alliance's Delta 4 rocket.

The programme is part of the U.S. government's move to encourage private space companies to provide human transportation services to low-Earth orbit, allowing Nasa to focus on deep space missions.

Today was Falcon Heavy's day, however. "You could go to the Moon in a Falcon Heavy with an orbital refueling", Musk said, "but I wouldn't recommend it - the BFR is the way to go".

"I'm guessing our total investment is over half a billion", Musk said.
