Trump critic Mitt Romney back, running for Senate

Mitt Romney Will Announce Senate Run on Thursday

After losing his 2012 election bid to then-incumbent President Barack Obama, the former private equity manager has stayed out of the public spotlight for the most part.

Romney kicked off his campaign with an ad released on his Twitter page in which he said, "Utah has a lot to teach the politicians in Washington", and "I believe that I can bring Utah's values and Utah's lessons to Washington". "I have no doubt that that will continue to happen in Utah".'s pollster, Dan Jones & Associates, has found Romney basically a shoo-in, as he runs for Sen.

"I am running for United States Senate to serve the people of Utah and bring Utah's values to Washington", he wrote in a tweet.

Jenny Wilson, a Democratic candidate running for Senate in Utah, said this week that "Utah families deserve another Utahn as their senator, not a MA governor who thinks of our state as his vacation home".

Romney said he has lived in Utah for a total of 10 years, as a BYU student, head of the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, and as what he called a permanent resident since 2014. It's already beginning, as Alex Isenstadt at Politico warned: Romney "intends to carefully skirt questions about how he'll deal with the president and what could be in store for his future, amid speculation that he's already plotting a role in leadership or even another campaign for the White House". A majority of Utahans belong to the Mormon faith. He said he spoke with Romney after the Tribune article was published, and Romney told him he would travel all corners of Utah to hear people's concerns. No donor or corporation would own his campaign or bias his vote, he said.

All of which reminds me of that sanity check my mom used to say to me: Before you say something stupid to other people, say it out loud to yourself.

However, some in the state see Romney as an outsider who is simply banking on his fame.

Several Democrats, including Salt Lake County Councilwoman Jennie Wilson, are in the race - but not likely to beat Romney unless something very odd happens.

Anderson says he's reached out to Romney through intermediaries several times with zero luck.

But either way, if Romney gets on the primary ballot via signatures, Jones' polling shows there likely isn't a Republican out there who could beat him.

Wilson came out swinging against Romney in a statement Wednesday ahead of Romney's announcement. He notes that Utah balances its budget, unlike Congress, which is (a) because states can't float their own currencies, and (b) because there isn't a fiscally responsible party in the USA any longer.

The son of a former MI governor, his political career began in 1994, when he introduced himself to MA as a fresh-faced executive who would bring the "change we need" by unseating Senator Edward M. Kennedy, scion of the legendary Democratic family.

Inside Elections with Nathan L. Gonzales rates the Utah Senate race Solid Republican. After Trump blamed "both sides" for inciting deadly violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, last summer, Romney said Trump's remarks "caused racists to rejoice".

Mr Trump has claimed Mr Hatch once told him he was "the greatest president in the history of our country". May our memory of Dr. King buoy our hope for unity, greatness, & "charity for all". After the election, Romney met Trump for dinner and participated in history's most tortured photo-op with the president-elect at the NY restaurant Jean Georges; Romney did not get the secretary of state position he was apparently angling for (though 13 percent of people think he is the secretary of state, according to Pew).

In the 2016 campaign, Romney decided not to seek the nomination again.

Romney, most famously, also labeled Trump a "phony" and a 'fraud'.

"His domestic policies would lead to recession".
