FL Stoneman Douglas students plan gun control march at Florida's capital

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Brandon Minoff has spoken to various outlets about the shooting and has called out the media for exploiting the tragedy to advance an agenda.

In an impassioned speech that quickly went viral, senior Emma Gonzalez said the "students at this school have been having debates on guns for what feels like our entire lives".

Lawmakers are looking to find ways to prevent more mass shootings in the wake of last week's high school attack which left 17 dead and many wounded.

Nikolas Cruz, a former Stoneman Douglas student, killed three teachers and 14 students while wounding another 15.

More than 100 students walked out of class at about 9:30 a.m. and held signs saying "No More Silence, End Gun Violence" and shouted "we want change". "And if the legislature won't do it, we will". He said, "I don't see that as a restriction".

The suspect in the Florida school shooting is reportedly set to receive an inheritance possibly topping a million dollars.

"The kids in Newtown were too young to understand what happened and were too young to have their own voice", he said, referring to the 20 first-graders killed in the 2012 CT school shooting.

The comedian explained he believed the aftermath of the Florida shooting had been different to previous student shootings in the United States.

The Florida students are operating under the banner of a new group called March for Our Lives. The organizers hope that Congress will take legislative action on gun control following the recent shooting in Florida. And the Network for Public Education is planning another nationwide walkout for April 20, the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting in Littleton, Colorado. A petition started by Lane Murdock, a student that lives 20 miles from Sandy Hook Elementary School in CT, attracted more than 50,000 signatures Sunday for the protest, according to Reuters.

Students protest against gun violence. "There have been too many so quickly right in a row and to me it's important to show support. We live in fear", the March for Our Lives mission statement reads in part.

In September previous year, a YouTube vlogger reported to the Federal Bureau of Investigation that someone with the user name Nikolas Cruz had left a comment under one of his videos that said "I'm going to be a professional school shooter". We are not safe at school.
