Trump questions violence in video games

Donald Trump's Video Game Meeting: Here's Who Is Attending Today And What To Expect

President Donald Trump is set to pit the video game industry against some of its harshest critics at a White House meeting on Thursday that's created to explore the link between violent games, guns and tragedies like last month's shooting in Parkland, Fla. A 19-year-old former student there, who legally bought an AR-15 assault style rifle, has been charged with the murders.

Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-Mo.), and Rep. Martha Roby (R-Ala.) will also attend the meeting, according to the White House statement.

White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders said documents were now being prepared.

"The President wants to continue the conversation on every different area that we can to help promote school safety".

"We welcomed the opportunity today to meet with the president and other elected officials at the White House", The ESA said in a statement.

The White House chose not to include any scientists or psychologists who have studied or written about the possible link between video games and violence. Huckabee Sanders was asked a few questions about Daniels' lawsuit on Wednesday and she will likely be asked a bit more today.

A third aide, who is drafting the tariffs, had this to say when asked whether it will be rolled out Thursday: "I'm not totally sure".

President Donald Trump, as he seeks to respond to gun violence in the wake of the Parkland school shooting, will gather opposing sides at the White House on Thursday to discuss the role of video game violence. "I am under the impression there will be future conversations, though no next steps were discussed".

"[And I think they know] that whatever the video game industry thinks that they are doing to limit kids' access is not enough, because kids are able to see these violent images and get these violent video games into their hands without much difficulty at all". "What separates America is our weak gun laws and unacceptable rates of gun violence".

There is no causal link between video games and gun violence, Jen McLean, executive director of the International Game Developers Association, told TechNewsWorld.

Altman has never come out in public to defend the video games, but was one of the attendees at a meeting in 2013 with then Vice President Joe Biden to discuss essentially the same topic.

It was the latest mass shooting in a country with more than 30,000 gun-related deaths annually.

Indeed, many studies over the years failed to show that playing video games makes a person more violent.

After seeming open to lots of ideas on guns in his last televised meeting - and still appearing to be in favor of certain limitations, like banning bump stocks and raising the age to purchase all guns to 21 - Trump has not pushed for anything of substance yet.

The ESA is correct on the science in his view. Multiple studies have found no connection between video game violence and violence in society - you can read a more in-depth discussion of that research here.

Back in February, PTC President Tim Winter said in a statement sent to the Deseret News that he agreed with Trump after the US president spoke out against graphic media.

"California relies primarily on the research of Dr. Craig Anderson and a few other research psychologists whose studies purport to show a connection between exposure to violent video games and harmful effects on children", wrote Scalia.
