Canada provincial party elects new leader months before polls

"After completing my review, I am confident in the results".

Ford is a former Toronto Ward 2 city counsellor and older brother of the late mayor Rob Ford, who is most famous for admitting to have smoked crack while in office.

Finally, shortly after 10 p.m., the results were announced and Ford was declared the victor.

To the east, in the Kitchener-Waterloo area, the two split four ridings in closer contests, including one that Elliott took by a single vote.

"Our scrutineers identified entire towns voting in the wrong riding. We support it because of its economic platform", he said.

Elliott had initially disputed the result of the leadership race. Irritated people refused to stay for the final announcement upset at the delay without a word from party executive members about the results during the afternoon.

"It was a very hard decision for me, but I believe we need someone who can work with Conservatives of every kind", said Bouma, the party's candidate in Brantford-Brant for the June 7 provincial election.

"We're going to spend the coming weeks getting the party in fighting shape, because the people of this province are ready for change", Ford said. "Marie during the leadership race, he struck me as really wanting to help Northern Ontario", Romano said. His conduct as leader and status in the June election had already taken centre stage in the leadership campaign and stirred debate among those hoping to succeed him.

It's not yet clear where Elliott run.

"We have a Hillary Clinton-Donald Trump situation", a senior Conservative told the (Toronto) Star before Ford was named the victor. "I extend my congratulations to Doug Ford on a hard-fought campaign", she added.

Ford made the media rounds Monday, calling into several radio shows and sitting down with Toronto's CP24, where he was asked about a phone call he had earlier that day with Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne.

He said he saw seniors "with tears in their eyes" because they were left out of the vote and he promised to "clean up the mess".

Ford said he will leave much of the work in the legislature to the party's now former interim leader, Vic Fedeli, who was installed in the post after the sudden January resignation of Patrick Brown amid sexual misconduct allegations.

Ford told The Toronto Sun at the time that he didn't have "any respect for Kathleen Wynne because she's an unelected premier".

Lefton then dismissed the assembled party members from the hall they'd occupied since late Saturday morning, saying the organization no longer had access to the premises. "I'm thoroughly disappointed in my friend Christine". I understand budgets, going line item by line item. I look forward to her being part of our team.

Ontario voters head to the polls on June 7. We had one person stand out and say, 'I don't care about democracy; let's just move forward.' That person is (fellow candidate) Christine Elliott.

"We're going to make sure they build those roads, that they can get to them, because it's going to be great".

Of course, when people are as determined to get rid of a government as many Ontarians seem determined to get rid of Kathleen Wynne's Liberals, it may not matter who the opposition leader is - up to a point.
